I planned to come back and share a bunch of stuff. Thoughts, photos, and what-nots…but I’m a tad out of breath.

Started taking a new exercise class yesterday, and I don’t even have the strength to move a finger to type. I’d venture to say even my hair hurts! Where have all these muscles been? And why have I not been using them until now? 😩

Somebody once told me that after age 40, your body changes a bit. It’s like some timer goes off and suddenly everything aches, your metabolism hits a wall and slows, phantom pains start at random, and unwelcome fat seems to hug your bones a bit tighter — seemingly never wanting to let go.

I had an epiphany on my way to class today. Maybe I’ll muster up enough energy to share it in the next few days. I do have to say…although it hurts, it feels good to move again. I really believe that even when the brain shuts down, the body knows what we need and it kicks in to survival mode. I’m in pain, but I’m grateful.

Anyhow, I’m off to catch my breath — and some Z’s. They say sleep helps our muscles recover and grow. While somewhere along the way, some other things hopefully start to shrink. At least, that’s what I’m hoping for. To shed a few extra pounds. To feel healthy.

Hemingway’s House - Key West

We made sure to visit Ernest Hemingway’s house while we were in Key West. For those that don’t know, Ernest was an American novelist, short-story writer, journalist, and sportsman - all aspects of his life that are evident within the house and all around the beautifully-gardened property.

Visiting the house is stepping back in time to the 1930s and walking in the footsteps of one of American’s most well-known authors and member of the post-World War I “Lost Generation” writers whose works we still read and study today. We picked up a copy of The Old Man and the Sea at the gift shop - we thought it the perfect item to remember the man and the region.

And of course, we made sure to pet a few of the property’s infamous six-toed cats.

PRO-TIP: After your visit, have a few cold beers and enjoy some fantastic live music at the Green Parrot Bar nearby… definitely worth a stop!
