The Green Parrot to Host Chicken and Waffle Brunch, Conch Republic Music
Festival and Fats Navarro Tribute
On Sunday April 20th, presented as part of the Annual Conch Republic
Independence Days
Celebration, The Green Parrot Bar will host the 2008 Green Parrot
Conch Republic
Music Festival beginning at 1:00 P.M.
.
The Festival kicks off at 12:30 PM with a Chicken and Waffle
Gospel/Soul Brunch featuring Robert Albury and Cliff Sawyer.
Southern Fried Chicken is provided by The Meteor Smokehouse and
Waffles will be prepared by Louie from The Coco Plum Inn with all
proceeds from the sale of Chicken and Waffles Platters to benefit The
Bahama Village Music Program.
Following at 2:00 P.M. is a tribute
to jazz legend and Key West native Fats Navarro
featuring some of the finest jazz players in the Conch Republic or
anywhere else, for that matter: guitarist Larry Baeder, trumpeter
Kenny Fradley, bassist Lonnie Jacobson, drummer Richard Crooks and
keyboardist Gordy Michaels performing material written
by Navarro, a seminal bebop jazz trumpeter, considered by many critics
to be the best bebop trumpeter of them all.
At 4:00 P.M. local latin dance band Caribe will perform.
At 5:30 the stage wil lbe given over by the Latin Grammy-nominated
Spam Allstars with
their blend of latin, funk, hip hop and dub.The Spam Allstars will
return to the stage at 10 PM Sunday night for another explosive show.
