George Porter Jr. is best known as the bassist, singer and a founding member of the seminal New Orleans funk band The Meters who came to be roundly recognized as one of the progenitors of funk. Porter is also Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award-recipient, and was named one of the 50 Greatest Bassists of All Time by Rolling Stone magazine.
