Key West Water Taxi

This was on the front page of today’s Key West Citizen. The photo has been widely circulated on wire services and television. I just had to include this because this is exactly the kind of bizarre thing that happens down here way too often it seems.
What we are looking at is a 1949 Mercury taxi cab that has been converted to a boat and has succesfully transported 13 cuban migrants across the straits of Florida to within 20 miles of Key West.
I guess this is what Carl Hiasson and Dave Barry meant when asked what inspirations for their writing they found in South Florida during a panel discussion as part of last year’s Key West Literary Seminar on humor. “Just pick up the morning paper”, they agreed.
