“One For The Road”, Jack Hackett’s Poem-A-Day For National Poetry Month

Irony and Culture will rear its ugly head every day in April at The Green Parrot Bar when, as our  contribution to  National Poetry Month,  we are proud to present  “One for the Road”, a Poem-a-Day delivered live in our barroom each day by Key West Poetry Guild member, eco-tour guide, former saloonkeeper, and self-described sailor-poet,  Tortuga Jack Hackett.

We have long considered The Green Parrot to be one of the cultural hubs of our community and we acknowledge that  The Parrot, while not  for the cultural elite, is certainly for the culturally deprived, and we continue to be firm believers that poetry has a place in the barroom as well as our daily lives.

It is in that spirit we  join with The O Miami Poetry Festival, Miami’s month-long salute to poetry, as well as The Academy of American Poets in celebrating National Poetry Month.

National Poetry Month and has now become the largest literary celebration in the world with schools, publishers, libraries, poets, and yes, bars like ours, celebrating poetry’s vital place in our culture.
