From Belgrade to Memphis to The Green Parrot, European Blues-Rocker Ana Popovic to appear at the Green Parrot
European Blues-Rocker Ana Popovic will appear at the Green Parrot
Jazz News said “Jimi Hendrix is a woman – her name is Ana Popovic.” The charming Popovic gives audiences searing blues and smooth jazzy licks that may prove this claim. Belgrade, Yugoslavia may not be the first place you think of when it comes to blues. Looking like a European model may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you’re picturing a guitar-slinging blues artist. If you put the two together, you get the newest sensation in the world of blues music and that is Ana Popovic.
Ana Popovic is one of the most promising new faces on the international blues music scene, and her rise has been meteoric. Since leaving her native Yugoslavia less than five years ago, she has played all the major European music festivals. More notably, she has been nominated for the prestigious W.C. Handy Award in Memphis for Best New Artist of 2003 – a rare honor for a European blues artist – and Best Blues Album at the annual Jammie Awards in New York City. She recently appeared at the Memphis in May festival alongside Bob Dylan and Ike turner.
Using a searing Elmore James-inspired slide guitar, Ana plays an aggressive style that challenges any of her male counterparts. Be here to experience the fresh, positive and genre-expanding blues of this rising star.
