“Eins! Zwei! Drei! G’suffa!!!” The Bräts Bring “NOLA Progressive Oom-Pah” The Green Parrot,
Dig out your Ledrhosen and brush up on your Chicken Dance as The Green Parrot Bar brings The New Orleans’-based Progressive Oom-Pah Band The Bräts
roll out the Oktoberfest Barrel as well as the polkas 2nd when The Green Parrot Bar presents tl Green Parrot Oktoberfest, a free, one-day beer festival beginning at 5:30 pm.
There will be seasonal beers, bratwurst, give-aways, and more, including special performances by the New Orleans’-based progressive-polka barn-burners, The Bräts, with shows begining at 5:30, 9:00 and 11:00 p.m. with plenty of room to chicken dance the night away!
When the Recording Academy, which bestows the Grammy Awards, announced, in 2009 that they had eliminated polka as a genre “to ensure the awards process remains representative of the current musical landscape.”, the announcement sparked Polka-Grammy outrage in the fierecely-loyal Polka community, and The Bräts, openly quarreling with that notion, and outraged at the news, cried: “Eins! Zwei! Drei! G’suffa!!!” and have been fighting fiercely to maintain polka integrity ever since, adding: “When we start to polka, we don’t just polka, we POLKA! ”
With their enthusiastic, high-octane live performances, led onstage by Maestro Justin Carlo Davi, and featuring the familiar Parrot-friendly faces of Johnny Sketch saxaphone-diva Sage Rouge, and In Business drummer Adam Baumal The Bräts have become a high-demand act in venues in New Orleans and across the country.
Their progressive take on traditional polka is described as nothing short of pure entertainment. This zeal for “progressive oom-pah” earned The Bräts their headlining position at many of New Orleans’ annual Oktoberfest Celebrations and during Oktoberfest 2012 The Brats released their first album, “Our Polka Says Fun,” which was recorded at The Music Shed in New Orleans, La. and featured cuts ranging from the familiar “Beer Barrel Polka” to Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” as The Brats continue to broaden their horizons and continue to deliver the heart-pumping sounds of polka.
