Blues Diva Toni Lynn Washington promises to thrill the throngs with
her special flavor of the Blues at The Green Parrot Bar
Toni Lynn Washington is hands-down one of the finest singers of the
blues. Her 1995 Tone-Cool debut, Blues at Midnight, garnered
widespread rave reviews and earned her nominations at the 1996 and
1997 W.C. Handy Awards. “It’s My Turn Now” is her 1997 follow-up and
quickly earned her a nomination as Female Artist of the Year at the
1998 awards. Her just-released CD “Good Things,” combines her stunning
vocal talents with her versatile band to create a unique sound with
the elements of classic R&B, contemporary funk, roots, soul blues and
jazz.
At the 1998 Chicago Blues Fest, her show-stopping performance,
coincidentally during a Chicago Bulls NBA final’s game, lead the
Chicago Sun-Times to declare that “Washington was the MVP of the main
stage.”
Like all great singers, Toni Lynn makes each song her own, whether
it’s a low-down blues, a jazz or R&B standard, or a new composition of
her own. As Boston Magazine so aptly put it, “she will make you melt.”
From a quiet whisper to a full-throated belt, Toni squeezes every
ounce of feeling and emotion out of the lyrics. Her phrasing creates
intense, powerful moods and emotions and truly sets her apart.
Recognition of her outstanding talents are long overdue, and with the
new album, an increased touring schedule and rave reviews of her live
performances, it’s clearly Toni Lynn’s time and turn now.
This is a performance not to be missed.
