Art Behind Bars

For those of you wondering what may have happened to the Seward Johnson sculptures after the city commission voted them off the island last week; shown here are Seward’s tourist facsimiles, pictured, as we like to say, in happier times.

Fast Forward to the scrapyard on Virginia and Simonton Streets where the sculptures appear to be under some sort of house arrest,

Wedged between a shower stall and the wrecking ball, ready to be melted back to beer cans or aluminum siding…

A closer inspection reveals yet another imprisoned Johnson tableau, The Card Players, oblivious and seemingly unaware of their plight, without even a writ of habeaus corpus, in the same boneyard, they seem part of a horrific gulag…
with “Shut up and deal” their only appeal.
