Rev. Billy C. Wirtz is Sanctified…and Tickled Too
Love The Sinner, Hate The Haircut

After 15 years of blues bars, comedy clubs and a couple of stints with pro wrestling, satirist/song parodist Rev. Billy C. Wirtz is ready to bring his First House Of Polyester Worship to The Green Parrot faithful on Saturday and Sunday, August 19th and 20th, beginning at 10 PM and including a 5 PM “soundcheck” on Sunday.
Promising to entertain, hypnotize and confuse Parrot patrons with a hilarious mix of blues, classic R&B and sharp social commentary, the 6’5″, heavily tattooed, extremely left-of-center, boogie woogie playin’ Rev. wraps his humorous stories and songs into carefully orchestrated sets that feature his stellar piano playing sprinkled with humorous observations about politics and life in 20th-century America.
An extremely knowledgeable roots musician and a dammed fine pianist, Billy incorporates the best elements of rockabilly and early rock and roll legends like Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley into his live performances. He then added country icons like Merle Haggard and Red Sovine to the mix and later threw in elements of Deep South Evangelist types like Jimmy Swaggart and Ernest Ainsley.
His album Backsliders Tractor Pull, which features tunes such as “Waffle House Fire,” “Honky Tonk Hermaphrodite” and “Mennonite Surf Party,” was named Comedy Album of the Year by the National Association of Independent Record Distributors.
The Green Parrot Bar is your Southernmost Pulpit for Southern-Fried Culture at the corner of Whitehead and Southard Streets.
