Blending latin, funk, hip hop and dub, The SpamAllstars make their
highly anticipated return to The Green Parrot for two
pelvis-grinding nights on Friday and Saturday October 17th and
18th beginning at 10 P.M.
Returning to Key West as part of The Green Parrot’s
cultural contribution to the Goomay Weekend and also to celebrate the
release of their fifth CD –”electrodomésticos”, it is safe to say
that you may never seen a band like this on The Parrot stage before.
Well known in Miami for their innovative sound, the SpamAllstars
have become the true Miami sound machine, giving South Florida a
premium blend of nostalgic, obscure, and retro sounds which has been
described as retro-Cuban and even as deconstructed rumba.
A self-described descarga or Cuban jam session,, DJ Le Spam and the
SpamAllstars are a unique ensemble creating their own niche on the
national music landscape with a prolific recording routine and over
200 show dates a year.
Deftly combining the live performance of his stage mates with a
cornucopia of electronically-evoked samples, DJ Le Spam (Andrew
Yeomanson) projects a distinctly modern voice, resonate of Miami’s
very Latin and urban soundtrack.
Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, the New York Times, Washington
Post, DownBeat, The Village Voice and Newsweek all praised their 2002
album Fucata Live!,and it was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2003.
SpamAllstars were surprised and proud of this achievement considering
that the album had been recorded live to a CD burner during one of
their weekly shows at Hoy Como Ayer in Little Havana.
In 2004 came the opportunity to collaborate and tour with Vida Blues’
Illustrated Band featuring Page McConnell (Phish), Oteil Burbridge
(Allman Brothers Band/Aquarium Rescue Unit) and Russell Batiste (Funky
Meters). The two bands recorded and toured as a 10-piece ensemble,
with a legendary performance at Bonnaroo. In November of the same year
a DVD of their Fillmore West collaboration was released worldwide.
Spam continues to revisit the far-flung fans picked up along the way,
mounting regular excursions up the Eastern Seaboard, west to
California and abroad.
SpamAllstars have appeared on Good Morning America, Mun2’s The Roof,
CBS This Morning, NPR’s All Things Considered, CBS-4’s Making of the
Latin Grammy’s, NBC 6’s Trendtrackers, and a variety of regional and
international radio programs.
