The Green Parrot Bar

This was a contest run by PhotoFriday. The idea of this weeks project was to walk out your door and go 2 blocks in one direction, then four blocks in another and then photograph what you saw. It seemed interesting and I enjoyed posting the photos on their site since it was a good exercise for me.

Here's my entry into the Photo Friday  2 by 4 photo contest

Mile Marker Zero

I walked out of my front gate and walked two blocks east. I turned north and walked another four blocks. Interestingly enough this is where I wound up. This is the beginning or the end, depending on which way you're heading, of US Highway 1 in Key West, Florida. The other end is in Fort Kent, Maine.

Monroe County Courthouse

Across the street from the Zero mile marker is the Monroe County Court House, built in 1890. (Coincidence?)

The End of the Rainbow

On the front lawn of the courthouse is a sign touting Key West as the paradise at the end of the rainbow.

Can you find the wildlife in the picture? Hint: It's a chicken.

Key West Citizen newspaper box at the end of the rainbow. Note the free Fantasy Fest t-shirt off on the box.

The Green Parrot Bar

Caddy-corner from the courthouse and just down the block form Mile Marker Zero.

The sign on the side of the Green Parrot notes the bar's distinction of being the first and last bar on US 1.

Historic

This plaque signifies that The Green Parrot is on the United States Register of Historic Places.

Another door on the Green Parrot. A popular photo-op.

Yet Another One

This door lists the upcomng events at The Parrot.

How Many Doors Does This Place Have?

A depiction of bluesman Robert Johnson by a local artist.

Another Door

This one painted by local artist David Wegman who also painted the Robert Johnson door.

Sorry

Sorry We're Open. I like this sign.

Inside

Here's the insode of the bar. A motley crew.
